Packaging dilemmas and nifty and creative ways of getting around using plastic
I know I am a few years behind on this but Lush use popcorn packaging. My wife received a birthday present this week and it arrived in a cardboard box with about 4 or 5 beauty products surrounded by popcorn. This is such a wonderful idea for so many reasons.
- It is cheap to do
- Readily available
- Bio-gradable (we are going to add ours to our compost bin)
- Lighter than paper (a bit!)
- Not plastic!
This is one of those ideas so simple you wonder why loads of other companies have not thought of doing it or have not started doing it. I used to hate styrofoam or polystyrene squiggles or any size of shape that comes with new appliances and computers.

I was pretty impressed too when I received an Xmas gift from Lush, however it really made me laugh when i gave a box of Lush products to my sister at Christmas! She thought I had actually popped the corn inside the pack…she said “I hope you dont mind but I thought it might taste a bit funny having been in with the bath products” LOL (I own a popcorn cart hire company – i was not offended in any way hehehe)
